One of a hundred minority attorneys recognized in the Mid-Atlantic Region

Washington, DC (June 21, 2013) – Venable LLP is pleased to announce that Moxila A. Upadhyaya has been named to Lawyers of Color’s Inaugural Hot List. Ms. Upadhyaya was one of a hundred early- to mid-career minority attorneys under 40 recognized in the Mid-Atlantic Region. Honorees will be profiled in the Hot List Special Issue which will be published in July.

The inaugural list of honorees was chosen through a two-pronged process. A selection committee, comprised of Lawyers of Color editorial staff and advisers, spent months reviewing nominations and researching bar publications and legal blogs to identify promising candidates. The committee also accepted nominations from mentors, peers, and colleagues and made editorial picks based on research of attorneys who had noteworthy accomplishments or were active in legal pipeline initiatives.

“This is a tremendous and well deserved honor, we are very proud of Moxi,” said White Collar attorney and Venable’s former Managing Partner, Karl A. Racine. “Whether clerking for exceptional trial and appellate judges or standing up for clients in court, Moxi is a recognized talent throughout District courts. She has consistently demonstrated strong leadership in the Bar and is an active contributor to the broader DC community.”

Ms. Upadhyaya is an experienced trial attorney in Venable’s Washington, DC based Commercial Litigation Group. She focuses her practice on complex civil litigation and represents businesses and individuals in bench and jury trials and is uniquely familiar with practice in the DC federal and state courts. Ms. Upadhyaya recently returned to Venable after serving as an inaugural law clerk to the Honorable Robert L. Wilkins, a former Venable litigation partner, of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia. In this capacity, she advised Judge Wilkins on pending complex civil, administrative, and criminal matters involving high-profile issues of first impression.  Prior to joining Venable, Ms. Upadhyaya served a two-year clerkship to the Honorable Eric T. Washington, Chief Judge of the District of Columbia Court of Appeals where she was involved in numerous complex civil, criminal and administrative cases which presented issues of first impression affecting the District of Columbia.
