At its Annual Meeting on June 11, the Legal Aid Society of DC elected IP Transactions partner Nora Garrote to a two-year term on its Executive Committee. Nora has represented Venable on the Legal Aid Society Board of Trustees for the past three years, and has served in various committees.
The Legal Aid Society focuses on poverty law and access to justice, and provides direct legal services to individuals and families in the District who could not otherwise afford to hire a lawyer. This includes work in the areas of evictions, homelessness, and related housing issues; access to health care, nutrition, and public benefits; child support, protection against domestic violence, and related family law issues; and consumer protection in debt collection actions.
Venable and the Venable Foundation have strongly supported the Legal Aid Society over the years by providing pro bono and financial support.
