Alex Brown focuses his practice on the litigation of insurance issues, regularly representing both insurers and policyholders. Mr. Brown has significant experience litigating insurance issues in state and federal trial courts, state appellate courts, and in administrative proceedings before the Maryland Insurance Administration, including Maryland's Office of Administrative Hearings. Mr. Brown's appellate experience includes briefing before Maryland's highest state appellate court, which lead to a published decision providing a noteworthy construction of Maryland insurance law.
Prior to joining Venable, Mr. Brown served as an Assistant Attorney General for the State Maryland, providing counsel to the Maryland Insurance Administration and Maryland Insurance Commissioner on a wide range of insurance and regulatory issues. Mr. Brown has represented state insurance regulators in connection with the implementation and application of Maryland's insurance laws concerning property and casualty insurance and insurance agents and brokers, in both litigation matters and in other contexts.
Mr. Brown now routinely draws upon his diverse litigation and regulatory experience to assist clients in addressing regulatory issues with the Maryland Insurance Administration and other governmental entities. Mr. Brown also regularly provides clients valuable counsel in reviewing and evaluating the terms of complex commercial insurance policies.
