Brenda J. Tranchida
Of Counsel

A member of Venable’s healthcare group with over 20 years of experience in the public and private sector, Brenda Tranchida is an accomplished leader, manager and attorney, well-versed in regulatory healthcare compliance. She has held several high profile senior executive positions in federal sector healthcare compliance and oversight programs. Her primary focus is in federal healthcare compliance programs for private entities offering Medicare managed care (Medicare Advantage) and prescription drug (Medicare Part D) plans.

Prior to rejoining Venable as of counsel, Ms. Tranchida was a member of the senior executive leadership team at the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). Ms. Tranchida directed the Medicare Advantage (Part C) and Prescription Drug (Part D) audit and enforcement programs that provide compliance oversight for hundreds of private healthcare companies that contract to provide health and prescription drug benefits to nearly 30 million Medicare beneficiaries in a program with federal expenditures in excess of $150 billion annually. Ms. Tranchida has been at the forefront of establishing and enforcing meaningful requirements for the first federal sector mandatory healthcare compliance programs, paving the way for other Medicare and Medicaid federal sector mandatory compliance programs required by the 2010 Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA). In her tenure at CMS, Ms. Tranchida also served as the deputy director of CMS’ program integrity function and directed the agency’s employer group program operations providing Medicare options to employers covering millions of beneficiaries in employers/union retiree health and drug plans.

Ms. Tranchida also served as a senior counsel for the Securities and Exchange Commission in the General Counsel’s Office and started her career as an associate with Venable’s labor and employment and litigation groups.

Ms. Tranchida has a B.A. from the University of Connecticut (magna cum laude) and a J.D. (with honors) from the University of Maryland School of Law.
