David Heubeck concentrates his practice on intellectual property and product liability litigation matters. As part of his practice, he advises his clients on various methods available for resolving disputes, such as negotiation, arbitration, mediation, and litigation. Mr. Heubeck prepares cases thoroughly on behalf of his clients and proceeds to trial when a favorable pretrial resolution cannot be reached between the parties. In the past several years alone, Mr. Heubeck has recovered almost $30 million through judgments and settlements on behalf of his clients.

Mr. Heubeck's effectiveness in quickly resolving cases, particularly through the use of the Eastern District of Virginia's "rocket docket" court system, has recently resulted in three substantial victories on behalf of Venable clients seeking to protect their intellectual property rights. Two of these cases were each resolved within eight months and the third case was completed within 17 months, and together these three cases resulted in settlements totaling almost $15 million. Mr. Heubeck’s ability as an experienced trial lawyer also brings added value to the client, as shown by his effective presentation in a nine week jury trial in which he obtained a jury verdict and judgment in excess of $10,000,000 on behalf of Owens Corning in a defective product case.

Significant Matters

Recently, Mr. Heubeck has worked on a number of significant intellectual property matters. These matters include a patent infringement and breach of contract action involving implantable defibrillators, an infringement action involving multiple patents covering electronic balances, a patent infringement action involving a fluorescent enzyme immunoassay testing method for detecting allergens, and a trademark infringement action over the use of the Baltimore Colts trademark. He also successfully tried a case on behalf of a manufacturer seeking reimbursement for damages caused by defective coal tar bitumen.

Activities

Mr. Heubeck devotes time to his community as a member of the Gilman School Board of Trustees and as a board member of the Princeton Alumni Association of Maryland.
