George M. Borkowski
George Borkowski is the co-chair of Venable's national Intellectual Property Litigation Group. He has spent his career representing major entertainment and technology clients at the intersection of content creation and protection with technology, with a focus on the impact of technology on traditional intellectual property rights and business models.
Mr. Borkowski represents leading entertainment, video game and software companies and industry associations, as well as technology companies, and has handled the full continuum of IP and technology litigation, anti-piracy and rights enforcement, and counseling.
Mr. Borkowski brings particular strengths in copyright, trademark and anti-piracy litigation covering everything from music, film, and video games to computer software and Internet technology, as well as architectural works, photography and other content.
In addition to his entertainment IP industry work, Mr. Borkowski handles patent, trade secrets, digital copyright and anti-piracy cases for major computer and software companies and semiconductor manufacturers. He also has represented a leading wireless provider in trademark and network development disputes in California.
Significant Matters
Mr. Borkowski has participated as a senior lawyer in groundbreaking copyright disputes on behalf of recording industry clients, including a seminal case that resulted in an injunction against a large file sharing company, as well as in subsequent file-sharing litigations. He also has represented the motion picture industry in numerous copyright and piracy lawsuits and his work with record labels includes copyright infringement, royalty and trademark disputes. Mr. Borkowski also represents the video game industry in anti-piracy, copyright and patent infringement, and trade secret litigation. He further works closely with a major online provider of music.
