Kenneth S. Slaughter
Kenneth Slaughter represents private and public clients in labor, employment, public policy and government relations matters. Mr. Slaughter has established a broad practice representing District of Columbia government enterprises on a range of issues, including fiscal affairs, governance, contracting, and labor and employment issues. Mr. Slaughter also has advised private clients on federal and local government legislation and regulations for real estate and other business transactions.
As a former corporate general counsel, Mr. Slaughter brings sensitivity and understanding to clients’ requirements for effective representation.
Representative Clients
Mr. Slaughter’s private clients include Marriott, Rappaport Companies, Amerigroup Corporation, Associated Builders and Contractors of Metropolitan Washington and CareFirst. In the public sector, Mr. Slaughter represents the City Council of the City of Detroit, DC Housing Authority, DC Public Schools, University of the District of Columbia and DC Water.
Significant Matters
Mr. Slaughter negotiated significant labor agreements with employees at the DC Housing Authority, DC Water Authority, DC Convention Center and DC Public Schools’ Division of Transportation. Mr. Slaughter has advised public clients on termination and severance negotiations with several high-level management officials. His experience includes leading a Venable defense of a private client facing a major investigation by a federal Inspector General, and in the negotiation of a settlement with the Department of Justice of a
qui tam action. For another client, Mr. Slaughter led the legal strategy to defend a proposed debarment that would prohibit future government contracting by the client.
Activities
Mr. Slaughter has served on the firm’s Management Committee, its charitable foundation, and its partnership and evaluations committee. He also is director of several community organizations, including SEED Charter School, Heads Up, the Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Washington, and Venture Philanthropy Partners.
Mr. Slaughter is a member of the National Bar Association and the American Bar Association. His bar activities include the DC Affairs Committee and the Labor and Employment Committee.
