M. King Hill, III
Mr. Hill has proven experience in complex litigation in the areas of product liability, wrongful death, toxic tort, premises liability, pharmaceutical products, asbestos products, and insurance contracts. He concentrates on defending corporations which have been sued for monetary damages. He has substantial experience both in trying cases on his own and leading or being part of trial teams for large mass tort cases. He is also a skilled negotiator with a keen ability to work with co-counsel and opposing counsel. He is currently the Chair of Venable’s Products Liability and Personal Injury Practice Group.
Mr. Hill is a problem-solver. A problem presented at 5:00 p.m.will be seen as a challenge to be resolved by the next morning. His early experience handling a heavy docket of insurance defense cases has made him an efficient litigator who can balance the demands of a busy practice. He also has experience working with epidemiologists, pathologists, pulmonologists, oncologists, orthopedic surgeons, neuro-surgeons, neurologists, and other scientists and medical professionals and has contacts in the medical and scientific disciplines that quite often decide the outcome of complex product liability and toxic tort cases. Mr. Hill is also an experienced appellate advocate.
Significant Matters
Mr. Hill has worked on several noteworthy cases including the successful defense of a telecommunications company in a case before the United States District Court for the District of Maryland involving Daubert-related medical and scientific issues; the successful defense of an asbestos defendant in a seven-month consolidated trial in the Circuit Court for Baltimore City and the successful appeal of an adverse judgment in another asbestos case before the Maryland Court of Special Appeals; and the successful defense of an insurance company in a complex coverage action involving the toxic chemical pollution of groundwater in a case that was tried in the Circuit Court for Baltimore County and appealed twice to the Maryland Court of Special Appeals and twice to the Maryland Court of Appeals.
Activities
Mr. Hill is a member of the International Association of Defense Counsel and was the Maryland State representative to the Defense Research Institute. He is past president of the Maryland Defense Counsel, Inc. He is also involved in other civic, educational, and community activities.
