Melissa Gomez is a member of the SEC and White Collar Criminal Defense group. Her practice focuses on representing clients in criminal investigations and civil government enforcement actions. Ms. Gomez has experience conducting internal investigations, plea negotiations, sentencing hearings, and has defended clients against civil government enforcement actions.
Additionally, Ms. Gomez has worked on various commercial litigation matters. Ms. Gomez regularly advises clients on record information management issues. Her experience includes drafting record retention policies for corporations, nonprofit organizations, and various other entities.
Ms. Gomez has conducted internal investigations that include interviewing Spanish-speaking employees and agents, and reviewing records in Spanish. Her Spanish language services include representing Spanish-speaking clients in civil class action litigation and criminal actions.
Activities
Ms. Gomez is part of Venable's E-discovery task force. Additionally, she actively participates in Venable's recruiting efforts by frequently interviewing candidates for associate positions.
Ms. Gomez has represented several clients on a pro bono basis as part of Venable's program that supports the Federal Public Defender's office in the Eastern District of Virginia, the Whitman Walker Clinic in the District of Columbia, and other pro bono programs.
While in law school, Ms. Gomez served as judicial intern to Judge Kenneth M. Hoyt in the United States District Court for the Southern District of Texas.
