Jackie Bottash is the Legal Administrative Assistant to the Pro Bono Coordinator. In addition to daily contact with legal referral sources and firm attorneys working on pro bono matters, she coordinates community service projects, encouraging all firm personnel to take advantage of opportunities to help those in need in the D.C. area. Jackie has been featured in the Greater D.C. Cares Connection, and was honored by having a scholarship donated in her name by the National Youth Leadership Forum. Jackie is in the Washington, D.C. Jana Gibson is a paralegal in the Labor and Employment Group. Rick Joyce is a firm partner and chair of Venable's Communications Group. Mr. Joyce is an appointed member of the Fairfax County Juvenile Justice Citizen's Advisory Committee; a member of the Steering Committee for the Friends of Mount Vernon, and a volunteer lawyer for the Washington Area Lawyers for the Arts. Patricia McGowan is an associate in the Business Transactions Group. She received her undergraduate degree from the Johns Hopkins University and her law degree from the University of Maryland. Patsy is the Chairperson of the Young Lawyers Division of the Equal Justice Council of the Legal Aid Bureau, Inc. and a board member of the Catholic Community School of South Baltimore. Her pro bono activities include work with the Legal Aid Bureau and the Homeless Persons Representation Project. She is located in the Baltimore office at (410) 244-7539.

Amy McMaster is an associate in the Environmental Group. Prior to joining Venable, she interned with the Virginia Legal Aid Society. She has been actively involved in a variety of pro bono matters, including immigration, low income housing, and the regular representation of clients from the Cedar Ridge Legal Clinic. Recently, she represented a client before the hearing officer for the Fairfax Department of Housing and Community Development. Amy is in the Virginia Office at (703) 760-1656.

Mitch Mirviss is a firm partner and co-chairs the firm’s appellate advocacy group. Mr. Mirviss is an active participant in community affairs. In addition to heading the firm’s pro bono committee for several years, he serves as president of the board of Advocates for Children & Youth, Inc., a statewide advocacy organization, a member of the board of Maryland Disabilities Law Center, Inc., and as lead counsel for the plaintiffs in monitoring a consent decree protecting 8,000 foster children in Baltimore. In 2005, Mr. Mirviss was named one of Maryland's top 15 pro bono attorneys over the past 15 years by the Pro Bono Resource Center. Mitch is in the Baltimore office at (410) 244-7412.

Otho Thompson is a partner in the State and Local Government Practice Group. Prior to joining Venable he served as the Baltimore City Solicitor. He is a member of the Economic Development Advisory Committee of the Maryland Volunteer Lawyers' Service. Brian Zemil is a sixth-year partner in the Product Liability Practice Group. He is the Past Chair of the Maryland State Bar Association Young Lawyers' Section. Mr. Zemil served (2001-2002) as an officer and Board member of the Peoples' Pro Bono Resource Center. He presently serves as a faculty member of Maryland's Professionalism Course. He is the co-author of the Maryland Volunteer Lawyer's Expungement Guide. He has handled a variety of pro bono matters representing clients in civil rights, prisoner rights.
