Ryan Andrews is a litigator who defends employers against a broad range of civil lawsuits. Ryan regularly counsels employers in the entertainment, healthcare, retail, manufacturing, and telecommunications industries on best practices for hiring, firing, paying, providing leaves of absence, maintaining personnel policies, and disciplining employees, in compliance with complex California and federal employment laws. He also counsels employers and executives on navigating restrictive covenants and non-compete agreements, and on enforcing protection of trade secrets.

Ryan has resolved wrongful termination, harassment, discrimination, wage and hour, whistleblower, breach of contract, consumer protection, and various other civil claims at all stages of litigation. He has achieved favorable verdicts for his clients at trial, on summary judgment and on motions to dismiss. He actively practices in state and federal courts, before various California and federal administrative agencies, and in private arbitration.

Litigation

  • Obtained emergency temporary and permanent stay-away orders on behalf of multiple employers to protect current employees against violent former employees 
  • Obtained dismissal of lawsuit by an out-of-state employer seeking to enforce non-compete restrictions on California employees 
  • Obtained termination/dismissal sanctions in favor of an employer, based on an employee's spoliation of electronically stored information 
  • Obtained a successful verdict in a federal bench trial for small business owners in a compensation dispute 
  • Obtained dismissal through judgment on the pleadings for an employer in a wrongful termination lawsuit, with discovery sanctions and costs awarded in favor of client 
  • Obtained summary judgment for employers on various discrimination, wrongful termination, and related claims – in court and in binding arbitration 
  • Successfully resolved wage and hour claims brought by employees in representative/class actions and individual lawsuits 
  • Obtained summary judgment on behalf of media and technology companies in actions for violation of California's anti-SPAM email laws 
  • Defended an indigent immigrant against deportation before the 9th Circuit 
  • Successfully moved to strike a class action and vicarious liability allegations brought by a consumer plaintiff 
  • Obtained an emergency writ of possession, on an immediate ex parte basis, for the return of a celebrity client’s valuable property, with which defendant had absconded
