Venable partner Frederick M. Joyce will conduct a MCLE webinar on behalf of the California Peace Officers' Association (CPOA). The event will provide an overview of issues to be considered and addressed while developing social media and electronic communications policy for law enforcement agencies, as well as a number of related issues facing the law enforcement community. The webinar will also guide attendees through areas to address while developing social media and electronic privacy policy.

Some of the topic areas to be discussed include: content of a sound department Policy; off duty postings and when they become job related implicating the employer; conduct bringing embarrassment to the organization; legal discovery (following critical incident, impeachment, etc), postings not job related done while on duty; improper disclosure of private law enforcement information; ability of an employer to view postings; responsibilities of notification by department personnel who become aware of social networking policy violations.
