Social Responsibility
Each day, Venable attorneys and staff make tremendous contributions to the communities in which they live and work. They engage in a wide variety of activities centered around community service, ranging from volunteering at legal clinics and schools, to providing pro bono legal counsel to needy individuals and families, to serving on the boards of hospitals, public interest groups, religious institutions, educational institutions and other valuable community organizations.
Venable's commitment to social responsibility includes financial support as well. Funded entirely via contributions from Venable attorneys, the firm maintains one of the Mid-Atlantic region's largest corporate philanthropic foundations—the Venable Foundation—which in 2008 provided nearly $2 million in support to organizations and programs throughout our communities.
The value of these activities to the firm cannot be overestimated. They are critical to Venable's responsibility to serve its communities, but they also provide benefits to the participants. For newer lawyers in particular, being active in the community serves to round out their professional practice and exposes them to community leaders and issues.
