Venable Foundation

"An unwavering commitment to the welfare of the communities in which we live and work has been a hallmark of the firm."
-Benjamin R. Civiletti, Senior Partner and Past Chair, Venable

Established in 1983, The Venable Foundation works to promote the health and well-being of the communities where Venable's clients and attorneys work and live.

In 2011, the Foundation gave more than $2 million in contributions to a wide variety of organizations, continuing a long tradition of unparalleled giving which complements the pro bono legal work and community service of Venable attorneys and staff.

The Foundation supports a wide range of civic, cultural and charitable endeavors as well as public interest law and legal education:

  • Children's services are a major focus, as is funding for poor families and individuals.
  • Homeless shelters and food programs receive special attention.
  • Community organizations are important to Venable, as are hospitals, hospices and local chapters of national health organizations.
  • The Venable Foundation also supports a wide range of educational, artistic and cultural events and organizations.

A central focus is legal assistance and legal education programs—including many where our attorneys also provide pro bono legal work.

The needs of recipients are brought to the attention of the Foundation by Venable attorneys and staff who are often contributing their time and talent to those causes.

Recognizing both dollar and in-kind contributions, the Washington Business Journal and Baltimore Business Journal have reported that Venable is among the region's leading corporate philanthropists.
