BALTIMORE, MD (8/4/05) — Venable LLP, Maryland’s largest law firm, is pleased to announce that attorneys Michael J. Baader, Charles J. Morton and Richard L. Wasserman have all been named “Maryland’s Legal Elite” by Baltimore SmartCEO Magazine.

Earlier this year, Baltimore SmartCEO contacted thousands of Maryland attorneys and asked them to assess their peers and colleagues and nominate those whom they believe to be the top attorneys in the state. Each lawyer was given a score based on the number of nominations received. Votes received from lawyers in other firms were weighted heavier than votes received from lawyers in the same firm. Nominations were verified and discussed and 40 attorneys emerged as the first class of Maryland’s Legal Elite.

Mr. Baader, Chair of the Corporate Group at Venable, concentrates on all aspects of corporate planning and business advisory services to corporate clients, and focuses on mergers and acquisitions, asset sales, joint ventures, venture capital investments, financing transactions and general corporate planning. He also counsels clients in technology development and licensing, outsourcing, strategic alliance and teaming arrangements, consulting and services agreements, and distributor/dealer relationships.

Recognized by the Baltimore Business Journal as "one of the best lawyers in Baltimore when it comes to advising entrepreneurial firms," Mr. Morton is a partner in the transactional law practice, concentrating on corporate law, financing, mergers and acquisitions, licensing and other issues facing growing companies.

Mr. Wasserman is the senior partner in Venable’s Bankruptcy and Creditors’ Rights Group and concentrates his practice in matters involving bankruptcy and bankruptcy-related litigation, creditors’ rights, secured transactions, workouts, complex Chapter 11 reorganizations and restructurings. Mr. Wasserman is a Fellow in the American College of Bankruptcy, a past President of the Bankruptcy Bar Association for the District of Maryland and has served as a trustee, examiner and counsel in significant national and regional bankruptcy cases.

One of the American Lawyer’s top 100 law firms, Venable LLP has attorneys practicing in all areas of corporate and business law, complex litigation, intellectual property and government affairs.
