On November 16, 2014, American Lawyer featured the recent additions of Juliana Reno and Jason Whiting to Venable. It also noted Karl Racine's recent victory as the elected attorney general of Washington, DC.

Reno, who joined the New York office last week as a partner, represents clients in all areas of benefits issues. She regularly counsels companies on health and welfare plans, including the Affordable Care Act, ERISA, COBRA and HIPAA. Reno also advises clients concerning the mental health parity rules and the regulation of cafeteria plans.

Whiting joined the firm's Los Angeles office as counsel in the Tax and Wealth Planning practice group last month. He advises high net-worth families and individuals on wealth succession, estate gift and generation skipping transfer tax issues, and frequently represents clients before the Internal Revenue Service. Whiting also advises trustees on their duties in administering trusts, and advises individuals and organizations regarding the formation and operation of section 501(c)(3) charities and private foundations.

Earlier this month, Racine topped a crowded field of candidates to become Washington, DC's first elected attorney general. A former public defender, White House attorney, and Venable's managing partner, Racine will lead a staff of 300 attorneys in defending the District in various legal matters.
