Washington, DC (December 3, 2012) – Venable LLP is pleased to announce the 2013 editions of Benchmark Litigation and Benchmark Appellate have recognized Venable and 13 of its attorneys in the Washington, DC and Baltimore regions.

In Maryland, Venable is listed as “highly recommended” on the Benchmark Litigation list of local litigation firms. Additionally, Venable Chairman James L. Shea and partners Geoffrey R. Garinther, W. Warren Hamel, Christopher R. Mellott, Michael Schatzow, Paul F. Strain, James E. Gray, and G. Stewart Webb, Jr. are recognized as “local litigation stars.” Partners Christina Lee Gaarder and Kathleen S. Hardway are recognized as “future stars.” In Washington, DC, Mr. Garinther received a second listing as a “local litigation star” and partners Caroline Petro Gately and Treazure R. Johnson were named “future stars.”

Benchmark Appellate named Venable a “highly recommended” firm on its list of Fourth Circuit litigation firms. Additionally, partner Mitchell Y. Mirviss of the firm’s Baltimore office was recognized as a Fourth Circuit “litigation star” in Maryland. Mr. Mirviss is one of only three attorneys in the state to receive this honor.

Research for Benchmark Litigation and Benchmark Appellate was conducted over a six-month period and final recommendations are based on interviews with the nation's leading private practice lawyers and in-house counsel. Firms listed as “highly recommended” received the most mentions, and were held as dominant in their particular jurisdiction. Attorneys listed as “local litigation stars” were recommended consistently as reputable and effective litigators by clients and peers while “future stars” are partners who were consistently referenced by peers and clients as litigators who are likely to be become “local litigation stars” in coming editions of the guide.

Originally published in 2008, Benchmark Litigation is the definitive guide to America's leading litigation firms and attorneys.
