Bruce Parker Appointed Director of IADC's 2004 Trial Academy

Baltimore, MD (8/1/03) -- Venable is pleased to announce that Bruce Parker, a partner in the firm's product liability and toxic tort practice, was appointed Director-Elect of the International Association of Defense Counsel's 32nd Annual Trial Academy for 2004. Mr. Parker was first honored with a faculty appointment to the highly respected Trial Academy for the civil defense bar in 1995.

The Trial Academy is one of the primary continuing legal education offerings of IADC, the oldest and most prestigious organization of trial lawyers representing insurers and corporations.Its 2,300 members from around the world are known for their contributions to scholarship and academic leadership. The Trial Academy, created in 1973, is an eight-day intensive program covering all aspects of trial for junior defense lawyers. In 2004 the academy will move to its new home at Stanford University Law School after having been based at the University of Colorado, Boulder for the last 31 years.

Mr. Parker has been a member of the national trial teams in both the breast implant and latex glove litigations. In that capacity, he has tried significant cases in both litigations. Mr. Parker currently serves as national counsel in the diesel exhaust litigation.

In addition to his work with the Trial Academy,Mr. Parkeris currently serving a three-year term as a member of IADC's Executive Committee. He also writes and lectures frequently on scientific evidence and defense strategies for IADC and the Defense Research Institute.

Mr. Parker's forthcoming article "Mold Litigation: Avoidable or Inevitable?" will be published later this year by Real Estate Review.

Mr. Parker graduated first in his class from the Catholic University of America's Columbus School of Law in 1978 and received his B.A., with honors, from Johns Hopkins University in 1975. He is a member of the Maryland and District of Columbia bars.
