Practice and four partners among those ranked nationally in upcoming edition

Washington, DC – April 12, 2016 – Chambers USA, one of the nation's leading guides to law firms and attorneys, has announced the finalists for its annual Award for Excellence. For the second time in three years, Venable was named a finalist in the Product Liability category. Based on Chambers' research for its upcoming 2016 guide, Award for Excellence finalists are singled out for notable achievements over the past year, including outstanding work, impressive strategic growth, and excellence in client service. Winners will be announced on May 26 at the Chambers USA Awards Ceremony and Dinner in New York City.

The upcoming edition of Chambers USA will once again rank Venable among the top firms in the country for Product Liability and Mass Torts defense. Last year, Chambers USA praised Venable's Products Liability and Mass Torts Practice Group for its "deep bench" and "handling [of] headline litigation in the drug and device sector, often playing a lead trial counsel role." One source quoted by Chambers said, "Their responsiveness along with their trial strategy and experience is what a client is looking for in a product liability defense firm." Additionally, four partners – Stephen E. Marshall, Bruce R. Parker, Paul F. Strain, and Craig A. Thompson – will be ranked among the top attorneys nationally in the same category. This will be the first year that Mr. Thompson has been ranked in Chambers USA.

Venable has been named a finalist for the Award for Excellence several times over the years. The firm's Privacy and Data Security Group was a finalist for the award in consecutive years and won it 2009. The Advertising and Marketing Group was a finalist for the award in four consecutive years and won it in 2010 and 2011 before the category was retired.

With one of the most active and respected product liability practices in the United States, Venable is well known for its defense of pharmaceutical and medical device manufacturers in jurisdictions across the country. Over the past several years, Venable has served as lead counsel for pharmaceutical and medical device manufacturers in numerous federal multidistrict litigation and statewide coordinated proceedings. The group also represents clients in consumer class actions, responding to congressional investigations, and defending against mass tort claims in the United Kingdom and Canada. In addition to pharmaceutical and medical device cases, Venable has also represented clients in product liability matters involving asbestos, tobacco, automobiles, industrial chemicals, and consumer electronics.
