Marketing our schools goes hand in hand with our fund raising efforts. Both are essential to the health and welfare of our institutions. Unfortunately, it is rare that schools look closely at the legal issues associated with these essential areas. The use of social media, whether in promoting the school or soliciting in behalf of the school can raise serious legal issues. The protection of a school’s name, logo and other items that establish the brand is essential and yet often ignored. Schools have filing obligations in states where donors reside and the failure to do so could compromise the donation. This session will focus on the many legal issues raised in the marketing of a school and a school’s fundraising efforts.
