James Shea Elected to American College of Trial Lawyers

Washington, D.C. December 13, 2001 --- James L. Shea, Venable's Managing Partner, was elected a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers. In receiving this professional honor, Mr. Shea joins distinguished Venable Fellows Benjamin R. Civiletti, William D. Dolan, III, James Gray, John Henry Lewin, Jr., Roger W. Titus, and Gerard Treanor.

For more than 50 years, the American College of Trial Lawyers has recognized excellence in trial lawyers. The College identifies and recognizes outstanding trial lawyers from every segment of the civil and criminal trial bar in the United States and Canada. Its purpose is to improve the standards of trial practice, the administration of justice, and the ethics of the profession. Invitation to membership is extended by the Board of Regents, the governing body of the College, only after careful examination of the nominee's experience, skill, ability, and ethical standards.

A graduate of the University of Virginia School of Law, Mr. Shea is active in the community and legal profession. He is Chairman of the Board of the Empower Baltimore Management Corporation Board, Chairman of the Board of the Downtown Partnership of Baltimore, and Chairman Elect of the Calvert School Board. He serves on the boards of the Greater Baltimore Committee, the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, Mercantile Bankshares Corporation and Mercantile Safe-Deposit and Trust Company. Mr. Shea has been active in the ATLAS Minority Mentor Program and the Minority Mentorship Clerkship Program of the Baltimore City Bar Association. He is also a member of the Defense Research Institute and the Maryland Association of Defense Trial Counsel.
