Venable partner and former Secretary of Transportation Jim Burnley was quoted in a January 29, 2013 USA Today article about the departure of current Secretary of Transportation Ray LaHood. LaHood, who is leaving after four years in his position, is widely known for campaigning against distracted driving, cracking down on bus companies after a series of fatal crashes, and implementing rules requiring airlines to advertise all fees in the ticket price, limiting the time passengers can stay on a plane during a delay, and improving training and rest periods for pilots.

“As is true with every secretary of transportation, Ray LaHood has made safety a priority,” Burnley said commenting on LaHood’s tenure. “The signature issue for him, for which he'll be remembered on the safety front, is probably going to be his campaign against distracted driving. It has had quite an impact.”
