Jim Burnley speaks at conferences on railroad regulation and Highway Trust Fund

On January 25, 2012, Venable partner and former Secretary of Transportation Jim Burnley spoke at the Transportation Research Board’s annual meeting. He was joined by current Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood and former Transportation Secretaries Alan Boyd, Samuel Skinner, Andrew Card, and Rodney Slater. The event was featured in the January 25, 2012 issue of Innovation NewsBriefs.

Speaking to the standing-room-only audience, Burnley said he thought the Highway Trust Fund had “collapsed,” asking, “Do we resurrect it, replace it with something else or devolve funding to the states?"

On January 23, 2012 Burnley spoke to the Transportation Research Board on the “Economic Regulation of Rail Freight: Recent Developments in Canada and the US.” Burnley also spoke at the SMC3 conference in Atlanta about the collapse of the federal Highway Trust Fund and the prospects for passage of a new Surface Transportation bill on January 17, 2012.
