Washington, DC – June 30, 2015 – Legal 500, considered one of the most comprehensive worldwide qualitative guides available on lawyers and law firms, has announced its 2015 rankings. This year, Venable's nonprofit organizations practice was one of only four nationwide that were ranked in Tier 1. Singled out for the fourth consecutive year was practice chair Jeffrey S. Tenenbaum, who was named a Leading Lawyer. Mr. Tenenbaum was one of only ten attorneys in the country to receive this designation in the Not-for-Profit category.

According to Legal 500, Venable has a "spectacular" team of nonprofit attorneys who are "responsive, practical and knowledgeable." The group is noted for being "especially active in Tax Court litigation and the formation of nonprofit entities." Legal 500 also praises the group for its "track record for innovation in the area of IRS audits."

Individually, Mr. Tenenbaum was singled out as "excellent" for his representation of "think tanks and advocacy groups as well as charities, foundations and professional associations." Legal 500 also highlighted Washington, DC-based partners George E. Constantine, Lisa M. Hix, Ronald M. Jacobs, Brock R. Landry, and Lawrence H. Norton. In the firm's Baltimore office, Legal 500 highlighted Venable co-managing partner Robert L. Waldman and partner Thora A. Johnson. "Foundations, hospitals, educational institutions and trade associations are among Waldman's clients, and philanthropy and estate planning are key parts of his work," said Legal 500's editorial commentary.

Across the firm, Legal 500 recognized 44 individual attorneys and ranked the firm in a record 14 practice categories, including additional Tier 1 rankings for Marketing and Advertising, M&A: Middle-Market (Sub-$500M), and Technology: Transactions. Five attorneys – Roger A. Colaizzi, Stuart P. Ingis, Jeffrey D. Knowles, Charles J. Morton, Jr., and William T. Russell – joined Mr. Tenenbaum as Leading Lawyers.

Published for over 25 years, the Legal 500 has been analyzing the capabilities of law firms across the world, with a comprehensive research program revised and updated every year to provide the most up-to-date vision of the global legal market. Rankings are based on a series of criteria, including feedback from 250,000 clients worldwide, submissions from and interviews with leading private practice lawyers, and the findings of a team of researchers who have extensive experience in the legal market. Leading Lawyer selections are made from among all the recommended attorneys in a particular category to single out those few individuals who, in the view of their peers, represent the highest standards of the category.

With more than 650 nonprofit clients nationwide, Venable has the largest concentration of attorneys in the country providing counseling to and advocacy for charities, trade and professional associations, foundations, think tanks, schools, hospitals, and other nonprofit organizations.
