Washington, DC (July 11, 2018) – Savoy magazine recognized Lisa A. Tavares and Claude E. Bailey, both partners in the Washington, DC office, as "2018 Most Influential Black Lawyers" in the summer issue. The comprehensive annual list comprises the "best of the best" of Black lawyers who are partners at leading national law firms or corporate or general counsel with Fortune 1000 corporations.
Ms. Tavares, a member of the Employee Benefits and Executive Compensation Group, has practiced law for more than 20 years and counsels clients on all types of employee benefits matters. She advises clients regarding issues of employee benefit plan design and administration for retirement, health and welfare plans, and executive compensation arrangements. Her practice also involves compliance issues with the Internal Revenue Service, Department of Labor, and the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation. Prior to joining Venable, Ms. Tavares was an attorney with the Internal Revenue Service, Office of Chief Counsel, National Office, where she concentrated on qualified plan issues under examination and in litigation.
Mr. Bailey is a member of Venable's State and Local Government Practice. His work focuses on advising clients on matters that require interaction with the District of Columbia government, including government relations, legislative matters, public finance, public-private partnerships, real estate development, and a number of local regulatory issues. Prior to joining Venable, Mr. Bailey held a number of significant legal positions within the District government, including Principal Deputy Corporation Counsel, Washington Convention Center Authority General Counsel, and DC Sports and Entertainment Commission General Counsel.
