The organization plans to use the investment to help relief efforts in California for those who suffered from the recent devastation of the fires that struck in the Bay Area.

San Francisco, CA (November 16, 2017) – The Venable Foundation, Inc., the philanthropic arm of the law firm Venable LLP, is pleased to announce it has awarded an impact grant of $150,000 to benefit Bay Area Legal Aid for use in support of relief efforts in California for those who suffered from the recent devastation of the fires that struck in the Bay Area.

"There is great need in our local communities, particularly by the poor and the underserved who need legal representation. Giving is at the core of who we are and what we do," said Lindsay B. Meyer, president of The Venable Foundation. "We are proud to support the important work of the Bay Area Legal Aid and its timely efforts to help those communities affected by the fires recover."

James E. Nelson, partner-in-charge of Venable LLP's San Francisco office, added, "This grant is part of our long tradition of unparalleled giving, which complements the pro bono legal work, community service, volunteer time, and board service of Venable's attorneys and staff. It is part of our firm's commitment to be fully-invested in and a member of the communities in which we live and work."

"Access to needed legal help isn't just a matter of justice. In the wake of these disasters, it is food, shelter, healthcare, and family stability," said Genevieve Richardson, Bay Area Legal Aid's managing attorney for Napa, Contra Costa, and Marin counties.

Bay Area Legal Aid ensures fairness in the civil justice system for the most vulnerable members of our community. As the largest civil legal aid firm in the region, Bay Area Legal Aid serves the working poor, families with children, foster youth, seniors, immigrants, veterans, and persons with disabilities. Through local neighborhood offices, mobile advocacy clinics, and the nationally-recognized Legal Advice Line, Bay Area Legal Aid prevents homelessness, increases economic stability, protects consumers, expands access to healthcare, and protects families from domestic violence and sexual assault.
