Venable LLP is pleased to announce that partner Brian A. Zemil was presented with the first-ever Educator Award from the Maryland Volunteer Lawyer Service (MVLS) at the organization’s annual volunteer awards reception.

MVLS is the state’s largest provider of pro bono civil legal assistance, providing free or reduced-fee representation to low-income individuals and non-profit organizations with civil legal problems in Maryland. Their services have helped more than 40,000 low-income individuals.

Mr. Zemil has worked with MVLS for five years and was presented with the Educator Award for his extraordinary work in writing the MVLS’ expungement manual, serving as a training leader and for improving the Service’s overall resources and initiatives.

Brian has made a real contribution to MVLS by expanding our ability to expunge criminal records primarily for people seeking employment,” said Winifred Borden, MVLS Executive Director.

At Venable, Mr. Zemil’s practice focuses on complex litigation in areas of product liability and commercial litigation.  He litigates tort and commercial disputes in state and federal courts.
