Baltimore, MD (October 30, 2017) – The judges of the United States District Court for the District of Maryland presented Richard L. Wasserman, a senior partner in Venable's Bankruptcy and Creditors' Rights Group, with an Exceptional Service Award during their tenth biennial bench-bar conference on October 20, 2017. Mr. Wasserman was recognized for his dedication and commitment in providing exceptional service to the court.

Mr. Wasserman served for over 20 years as the chair of the Bankruptcy Bar Association/U.S. District Court Liaison Committee. Among other projects in that role, he was the editor of four editions of the Bankruptcy Appeals Manual, a publication providing guidance with respect to bankruptcy appeals in Maryland from the U.S. Bankruptcy Court to the U.S. District Court and direct appeals to the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals. Mr. Wasserman was also the co-author with Bankruptcy Judge Duncan W. Keir of two practice manuals with respect to withdrawals of reference and removal of bankruptcy cases.

Mr. Wasserman focuses his practice on bankruptcy and bankruptcy-related litigation, creditors' rights, secured transactions, workouts, reorganizations, and restructurings. He has extensive experience representing clients in major business, commercial, and real estate bankruptcy, and workout and reorganization matters, and has served as a Chapter 7 and Chapter 11 bankruptcy trustee, as a court-appointed examiner, and as a mediator in bankruptcy adversary proceedings and claims resolution proceedings. He is a Fellow and Regent in the American College of Bankruptcy, a member of ADR Maryland, and is available to mediate complex bankruptcy, business, and commercial dispute matters. He is a frequent lecturer on bankruptcy-related topics.

"I'm honored to receive this highly esteemed award from the judges of the United States District Court for the District of Maryland," said Mr. Wasserman. "I thank the judges of the U.S. District Court and the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Maryland for this recognition."
