Represents mixed-use projects and landowners throughout Northern Virginia, with an emphasis on redevelopment in Arlington County and Tysons Corner

Tysons Corner, VA (January 9, 2017) – Venable LLP, an American Lawyer Global 100 law firm, announced today that G. Evan Pritchard has joined the firm's Real Estate practice as counsel in its Tysons Corner office. Mr. Pritchard joins Venable from the Northern Virginia land use firm Walsh Colucci Lubeley & Walsh PC, where he was a shareholder.

Mr. Pritchard's practice focuses on securing zoning and land use approvals for developers and landowners in jurisdictions throughout Northern Virginia, particularly in Arlington, Fairfax County, the City of Fairfax, and the City of Falls Church, among others. He advises clients on state and federal legislation and regulations affecting real estate development and important changes to local jurisdictions' comprehensive plans and zoning ordinances. His clients include mixed-use project developers, large corporate clients as well as some work for nonprofits and churches. An experienced litigator, Mr. Pritchard also worked with the Environment & Natural Resources Division of the U.S. Department of Justice, serving as lead counsel on 25 civil cases in federal court.

"Northern Virginia is experiencing one of the biggest real estate booms in the country right now, and this is the perfect opportunity for Venable to bolster its leading real estate and land use practice," said Joe Schmelter, partner-in-charge of Venable's Tysons Corner office. "Not only is Evan well versed in the major issues facing developers, but he has been a key figure in obtaining redevelopment and rezoning approvals for some of the region's most high-profile developments. His experience working with a range of stakeholders, including elected officials, county staff, and community members, will be invaluable to our clients in their developments."

"With my practice heavily devoted to development projects in Northern Virginia, Venable's location in the heart of one of the region's fastest-growing communities provided the ideal landing spot with the greatest benefit to my clients," said Mr. Pritchard. "The firm also emphasizes and encourages an entrepreneurial spirit among its attorneys. This is a particularly important trait for efficiently and effectively managing the multiple parties involved in land use matters. And having worked with some of the firm's attorneys over the years, I knew firsthand just how strong and established Venable was in land use matters."

At Venable, Mr. Pritchard joins one of the most comprehensive real estate practices in the country. The group represents real estate investors, developers, landowners, and public agencies in the legislative, administrative, and regulatory aspects of complex zoning. Chambers USA, Legal 500, and U.S. News-Best Lawyers "Best Law Firms" have consistently recognized the group among the top practices, both regionally and nationally.

Mr. Pritchard earned his J.D. from the University of Texas School of Law in 2001 and his B.A. from the University of Texas at Austin in 1998.
