Washington, D.C., September 15, 2000 - Venable announced that Philip J. Harvey and Campbell Killefer will join the litigation division as partners, and Margaret T. Watkins will join as an associate effective September 18. All are formerly with Shaw Pittman's Washington, D.C. office. Harvey will be resident in the McLean office of Venable, and Killefer and Watkins will be resident in the Washington, D.C. office.

"A successful law firm draws strength from multiple practice areas," said William Coston, managing partner of Venable's Washington office. "In the last two years, Venable has built on its established federal regulatory practices in the D.C. area by adding over 40 technology practitioners and over 50 business lawyers. Today, we add to our deep litigation capacity by adding these three excellent trial lawyers," Coston continued. "For 100 years, litigation has been a hallmark practice at Venable. It is even more so today."

Philip J. Harvey was a partner in Shaw Pittman's litigation group and chairman of its commercial litigation group. A seasoned federal litigator, with substantial experience in the eastern district of Virginia, Harvey's trial and appellate experience includes cases involving professional negligence and ethics, director and officer liability, insurance, partnership dissolution, lender liability, business torts, copyright and trademark, and real estate. He is a graduate of Harvard University School of Law, and received his bachelor's degree from Purdue University. Harvey is admitted to practice in the District of Columbia and Virginia, and before various federal courts.

Campbell Killefer previously was chairman of Shaw Pittman's litigation practice from 1996 through 1998. He focuses his practice on technology-related litigation, copyrights, trademarks and trade secrets, construction and real estate disputes, in addition to securities and administrative litigation. Killefer also has significant experience in alternative dispute resolution (ADR), and serves on several ADR panels. Killefer is a graduate of Hastings College of Law at the University of California and completed his bachelor's degree at Stanford University. He is admitted to practice in the District of Columbia, California, before numerous U.S. District Courts and Courts of Appeals.

Margaret T. Watkins practiced in Shaw Pittman's litigation group for almost two years. She practices general commercial litigation, including contract disputes, insurance, real estate, business torts and professional liability. Prior to joining Shaw Pittman, she served as a law clerk to the Honorable Henry H. Kennedy, Jr. of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia. Watkins graduated from Georgetown University Law center, and received a master's degree from Harvard and a bachelor's degree from Johns Hopkins University.
