Washington, DC, March 19, 2002 . . . Venable is pleased to announce that Neal Dittersdorf has joined the firm as counsel in the Business Transactions and Corporate Technology practices. He will be resident in the Washington, DC office.
Mr. Dittersdorf concentrates on information technology, outsourcing, software, e-commerce and other technology matters. Prior to joining Venable, he served as general counsel of one the firm's clients -- a publicly traded provider of financial services software, information technology, and an Internet-based credit processing network. He saw the company through its transition from a private entity to a successful public company, its growth into an end-to-end technology provider for its financial services niche, and its ultimate sale to another public company.
Previously, Mr. Dittersdorf was a partner in the Washington, DC office of a national law firm, where he started the office's computer and intellectual property law group. He has represented clients in transactions and litigation involving electronic database protection and licensing, software licensing and hosting, e-commerce, joint ventures, software performance and development disputes, domain name and traditional trademark enforcement, music recording contracts, infomercial production, and intellectual property insurance coverage. Earlier in his career he was a trial attorney with the U.S. Department of Justice.

Mr. Dittersdorf received his J.D. from the New York University School of Law in 1984 and his B.A., magna cum laude, from Brandeis University in 1981. He is admitted to the District of Columbia, New York and New Jersey bars. He speaks to professional and business audiences on technology transactions and strategies, and has published articles on such topics as trademark enforcement and jurisdiction over Internet disputes.
