PC Magazine quotes David Strickland on V2X communication

Venable partner David Strickland was quoted in an October 3, 2014 PC Magazine article on vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-infrastructure communication, known collectively as V2X. The technology has the potential to allow cars to talk with one another and surrounding traffic infrastructure to help avoid accidents. Despite its potential benefits, V2X technology raises questions about privacy and its potential use in law enforcement.

According to Strickland, “Traffic enforcement is in the purview of the states.” But he added that using V2X technology for ticketing “may be technically possible...I don't think it would be accepted by consumers.” Strickland noted that if the technology was used for law enforcement, then drivers would have to be notified like they are with signs alerting them to traffic cameras.
