Venable counsel Robert Davis was quoted in a July 24, 2015 Law360 article on antitrust issues in health insurance mergers. Over the past month, two multi-billion dollar mergers have been announced that are likely to face a tough and extended antitrust review by the Justice Department. While either merger would be heavily scrutinized in any circumstance, the fact that they are happening at the same time means the Justice Department will likely consider each deal while reviewing the other.
"I don't know necessarily whether they'll try to resolve them both at the same time," said Davis. "It seems very possible they'll have just two teams working on it, in contact with each other but not necessarily timing things with each other. I don't think they would hold up one just because another one is going on."
