Venable partner Stu Ingis was quoted in a June 4, 2014 Bloomberg BNA article on a proposed consumer privacy bill of rights. The National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA), a division of the Commerce Department, said it is leading a review of the proposal announced by the White House in 2012. The proposed bill would grant the Federal Trade Commission new authority to require businesses to abide by fair information practice principles. These principles would include transparency about data collection practices and allowing consumers to control their personal information.

Commenting on the proposal, Ingis said it was important “not to pass legislation that could limit innovation just as we are at the dawn of big data and of the unprecedented innovation and benefits ahead of us.”
