16-year veteran false advertising and business litigation partner and trial lawyer joins Venable

Washington, DC (April 2, 2013) – Venable LLP today announced that Randall K. Miller has joined the firm as a partner in its Business Litigation and Advertising Practice Groups.  He will be resident in Venable’s Northern Virginia and Washington, DC offices, and he will focus his practice on false advertising and complex contract and business litigation matters.  Mr. Miller joins the firm from Arnold & Porter LLP, where he was partner in that firm’s business litigation group.

For 16 years, Mr. Miller has represented national advertisers as both plaintiffs and defendants in competitor false advertising cases under the Lanham Act, and he is recognized as one of the leading competitor advertising litigators.  His clients have spanned multiple industries, and his cases have included a number of leading brands in the food, pharmaceuticals, consumer electronics, and financial services sectors.  Mr. Miller has extensive experience litigating false advertising cases, particularly “emergency” temporary restraining order and preliminary injunction matters, and in the use of scientific and consumer perception evidence in false advertising cases involving consumer products claims.

In addition, Mr. Miller has extensive experience litigating complex business disputes such as those involving breach of contract, fraud, tortious interference, trade secrets and unfair competition claims.  Mr. Miller has handled these cases nationally and also in the fast-moving dockets of Northern Virginia courts, especially the Circuit Court of Fairfax County, Virginia and the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia.  Mr. Miller has represented clients in state and federal courts, in domestic and international arbitration proceedings, and before agencies of the federal government.

“Randy’s advertising litigation in high-visibility cases builds on the depth and breadth of Venable’s market-leading advertising practice and will fuel our firm’s continued growth,” said Jeffrey Knowles, long-time head of Venable’s Advertising, Marketing and New Media practice.  Venable’s Vice Chair Brian Schwalb said that “Randy is a tenacious and seasoned litigator who will build’s on Venable’s national litigation reputation.”

“I’m delighted to be joining Venable,” Mr. Miller said.  “The firm’s advertising and business litigation practices are a perfect fit for my practice.”
