Venable LLP attorney Vasilios Peros was honored with the 2005 Presidential Award by the Bar Association of Baltimore City (BABC) at the organization's 11th annual Past Presidents' Luncheon today.
The Presidential Awards are bestowed annually on BABC members who have selflessly given their time and energy to serving both the bar association and the community. BABC is the first bar association formed in Maryland and is one of the oldest in the country. Its mission is to aid in maintaining the honor and dignity of the legal profession, to promote legal service, and to further the administration of justice.
"Vasilios's championship of the causes of many individuals and entities through pro bono services demonstrates his commitment to Maryland's communities and to equal legal representation for all. He is well deserving of the award," said Gerry Treanor, Chair of Venable's Pro Bono Committee.
Mr. Peros is a member of BABC where he chairs the Membership Committee and is past chair of the Technology Committee. As Chair of the Technology Committee, he led the design and implementation of BABC's new Web site that includes many member value-added features. He was also a Fellow in the Maryland State Bar Association's Leadership Academy.
Mr. Peros has provided pro bono representation to individuals of limited means and to nonprofit organizations in the areas of corporate, tax and intellectual property law and is a member of Venable's Pro Bono Committee. Mr. Peros was recently recognized for his pro bono work by the American Bar Association and by Venable, which gave him the 2005 Pro Bono Lawyer of the Year Award.
Mr. Peros advises clients on business transactions, mergers and acquisitions, financings, intellectual property law and technology transactions. Prior to joining Venable, he worked for more than 16 years as an engineer and manager at a <i>Fortune</i> 100 corporation.
