Venable Partner Janet Satterthwaite Named to Inaugural Edition of IP Stars – Top 250 Women

Washington, DC (October 7, 2013) – Venable LLP is pleased to announce that Janet F. Satterthwaite, a leading partner in the firm’s Trademark, Copyright & Licensing Group, was named to the inaugural edition of IP Stars – Top 250 Women. The list features the top female IP attorneys in the United States.

Published by Managing Intellectual Property magazine, the list originated from research conducted for IP Stars 2013 – a book published in May in which Ms. Satterthwaite was also recognized. Drawing from more than 1,000 interviews with partners and law firms throughout the U.S., researchers chose the top IP attorneys, male and female, for IP Stars 2013. In addition to Ms. Satterthwaite, several other Venable attorneys also made this list.

Ms. Satterthwaite is known for both contentious and noncontentious trademark counseling, prosecution and portfolio management, licensing, enforcement/litigation. She is particularly renowned for her creative work in relation to trademarks in cyberspace. Providing global trademark counseling and enforcement to key U.S. brands, and U.S. trademark counsel to leading global brands, Ms. Satterthwaite also has a strong client base in Europe where she has held significant leadership positions in Marques, the European Trademark Owners’ Association. Ms. Satterthwaite is also a seasoned trademark litigator who has won as lead counsel on many trademark, domain name, copyright and false advertising lawsuits in federal courts in several states and in foreign countries.

Ms. Satterthwaite and Venable’s Trademark Group have received many prestigious awards and rankings, in which Ms. Satterthwaite has been praised as “innovative” and as a “fierce defender of the rights of her clients.” Most recently, she was recognized in the 2013 editions of World Trademark Review 1000 for Prosecution and Strategy and Legal 500 for Trademarks: Non-Contentious. She was also named to the International Who's Who of Internet, e-Commerce & Data Protection Lawyers.
