Los Angeles, CA - October 20, 2014 - Venable LLP announced today that it represented the seller in the sale of Aon Center in downtown Los Angeles to San Francisco-based real estate company Shorenstein Properties. The transaction was led by Venable partner Valentin G. Aguilar II and associate Bret P. Siciliano.

At the time of its completion in 1974, the 62-story Aon Center, located at 707 Wilshire Boulevard, was the tallest building in Los Angeles and remains a staple of the city's iconic skyline. For a time, the building was also the tallest west of the Mississippi River and the tallest in the world outside of Chicago and New York. Today, it is the second largest building in the city with over 1.2 million square feet of office space. Designed by architect Charles Luckman, whose works included the Theme Building at Los Angeles International Airport and Madison Square Garden in New York, the Modernist building’s primary tenant is insurance company Aon plc whose logo appears on the building.

Mr. Aguilar represents private and institutional investors and lenders in real estate matters across all asset types in California and throughout the United States, with an emphasis on joint ventures, on workouts and the enforcement of lender remedies for distressed loans, and on the acquisition, financing and disposition of real property and debt instruments in individual and portfolio transactions. Mr. Siciliano’s practice encompasses real estate transactions as well as corporate matters, including mergers and acquisitions, private placements, joint ventures and intellectual property licensing.
