San Francisco, CA (October 30, 2018) – Venable LLP is pleased to announce that Shane Brun, an intellectual property litigator, has joined the firm's Intellectual Property Litigation Practice as a partner in the San Francisco office, bolstering the firm's significant growth in intellectual property attorneys. Mr. Brun represents companies at all stages across many industries in patent litigation and other intellectual property and technology-related matters, including trade secret, trademark, and copyright litigation.

Mr. Brun's experience involves a wide range of technologies, including LiDAR technology and systems, Internet security, wearable technology, computer networking, wireless communications, microlithography, plasma displays, optical alignment, inspection systems, and digital imaging. He represents clients before various state and federal district courts and administrative bodies, including the International Trade Commission and the Patent Trademark and Appeals Board. Mr. Brun also advises clients on various intellectual property issues in connection with mergers and acquisitions, financial transactions, commercial agreement negotiations, procurement of patent rights for company products and services, and regulatory issues.

Justin E. Pierce, co-chair of Venable's Intellectual Property Division, said, "Venable has seen enormous growth in its Intellectual Property practice this year with the addition of Fitzpatrick, Cella, Harper & Scinto. In line with this growth and to strengthen our IP capabilities on the West Coast, we have made significant investments in acquiring talent such as Shane Brun, and hiring Sarah Brooks, an IP litigator, in the Los Angeles office in May, and Ben Pelletier, a patent prosecution veteran, in the San Francisco office in January."

James E. Nelson, partner-in-charge of the firm's San Francisco office, said, "Strength in IP is a key differentiator for the firm. And that strength is a huge asset in the Bay Area, where the need for practitioners with deep knowledge in biotech, life sciences, electronics, and technology is important for so many clients. Often, understanding a client's business begins with understanding their technology. As we look to build upon our IP capabilities on the West Coast, Shane's experience as an intellectual property litigator in the technology sector will be a perfect addition to the practice. We look forward to integrating him into the team, continuing to grow and expand our market strengths, and further amplifying our recent moves in the IP space."

Commenting on his move to Venable, Mr. Brun said, "The addition of the Fitzpatrick folks to the already talented Venable IP team has put Venable's IP practice over the top. From what I've seen, Venable has a unique platform for both IP and any type of complex litigation. I will be able to provide a broader range of services to a broader range of clients than I have in the past."

Mr. Brun received his J.D. from the University of California Hastings College of the Law in 1995 and his B.A. in Industrial Engineering from the University of Arkansas in 1990.
