Wall Street Journal quotes Jim Burnley on privatizing air traffic control

Venable partner Jim Burnley was quoted in an August 24, 2014 Wall Street Journal article on a new push to privatize the country’s air traffic control system. Those in favor of privatization or a hybrid public-private-corporation say the move would lead to more reliable funding while critics say it would lead to new fees on airlines and pilots. In the past two decades, several nations including Australia, the UK, Germany and Canada have made the transition.

“That they're willing to talk is a huge step forward,” said Burnley commenting on moves by various stakeholders to discuss alternatives to the current system. “If you want stable, long-term funding, you can't do it if you're locked into a federal agency.”
