Venable partner Larry Norton was quoted in a February 27, 2015 Washington Post article on the Justice Department's increased scrutiny on the relationship between political candidate and outside groups supporting them. The move comes as the 2016 election ramps up with many candidates working closely with super PACs supporting them.
"It will have a huge impact on the landscape," said Norton. With outside groups "only growing in influence, that announcement is a signal to everyone involved in the 2016 campaign that government is watching. We're talking about potential criminal enforcement action, not a FEC investigation or a fine…The implications are serious."
