Washington, D.C., January 24, 2001 - At Downtown Partnership's January board meeting, James L. Shea, managing partner of Venable, a premier Downtown law firm, was elected to serve as the new chairman of the board of Downtown Partnership.

Mr. Shea succeeds Allfirst chairman Frank Bramble, who has served as DPOB chairman since September 1999.

"I'm pleased and honored that the Downtown Partnership's board has chosen me to build upon the strong legacy established by Frank Bramble" Mr. Shea stated. "Working with the O'Malley Administration, City Council, and Downtown's business community, I'm looking forward to tackling the strategic challenges Downtown faces, and enhancing Downtown's reputation as the economic engine driving the city and region."

"Jim Shea brings tremendous experience and prestige to the table," stated Michele Whelley, Downtown Partnership's president. "As one of our most respected business and civic leaders, he speaks with great personal knowledge and authority on issues such as parking, economic development, public safety, the special needs of tech firms, and other matters critical to the local business community."

Whelley also thanked outgoing Partnership board chairman Frank Bramble for his service. "Under Frank's leadership, new garages have moved into construction, and work has finally begun on physical improvements to Downtown's landscape. Frank is a dynamic and enthusiastic cheerleader for Downtown, and we owe him a debt of gratitude for his service."

As managing partner of Venable, Shea maintains an active litigation practice, focusing on commercial law and products liability. His clients include Marriott International, Inc., Raytheon, Inc., G. D. Searle and Co., General Electric Company, Jos. A Bank, Carr Lowrey, and SAGA SOFTWARE, Inc. He earned his law degree from the University of Virginia in 1977.
