BALTIMORE, MD (6/12/03) – Venable LLP is pleased to announce that today at The Maryland State Bar Association’s annual conference, Associate Brian A. Zemil was named the recipient of the 2003 Edward F. Shea, Jr. Professionalism Award.

The Shea award recognizes one young attorney who exemplifies pride, dedication, and adherence to the highest standards of integrity, civility, and compassion that all young lawyers strive for in their profession. The Edward F. Shea, Jr. Award was created in 1996 in memory of the past Maryland State Bar Association president, Edward F. Shea, Jr. Mr. Shea has been called Maryland’s “Father of Professionalism.” The award aims to celebrate Mr. Shea’s legacy of practical training in professionalism and ethics for young lawyers.

“Brian’s energy, enthusiasm, but above all, respect for the law is contagious,” said Venable colleague Chip Hill, partner. “It has been my pleasure to work alongside Brian and watch the growth of such a young talent who is destined to be a leader in his profession.”

As a law clerk to the Judge who tried Maryland’s largest consolidated mass tort case, Mr. Zemil arrived at Venable with the litigation skills needed to manage and try cases independently and with a trial team. He recently received a verdict for his client in a prisoner’s rights case in federal court.

In addition to the Shea award, Mr. Zemil has received the JoeAnn E. Long Memorial Award. Mr. Zemil attended Albright College and earned his J.D. from the University of Tulsa College of Law in 1994 where he graduated cum laude.
