WASHINGTON, DC (November 15 , 2005) – Venable LLP tax and real estate partner Stefan Tucker has been named one of the nation’s top 100 attorneys in U.S. Robb Report’s Worth magazine. Mr. Tucker was one of only three attorneys from Washington, DC included on the list, which focused on lawyers around the United States representing high net worth individuals and families. It is being published for the first time in the magazine’s December issue.
Worth’s editors made their selection based on feedback from professionals in the wealth management industry, including financial advisors and planners, accountants, consultants, and even family office executives, as well as clients. The magazine sought out attorneys who combined exceptional experience with outstanding interpersonal skills and great tact. Finalists were ultimately chosen because they “think beyond the numbers and routines of their daily work” and demonstrated a “keen sense of service.”
Mr. Tucker has been in private practice for more than four decades, representing some of Washington’s best-known individuals, families and entrepreneurs on personal tax and wealth management matters. His clients trust him with their most important financial decisions, including income tax and estate planning, executive compensation, real estate transactions and charitable giving, as well as family business issues such as acquisitions and sales, and succession planning.
“It’s extremely rare to find a tax attorney as knowledgeable as Stef Tucker who is also supremely gracious and attentive to clients – he has a generalist’s range and a specialist’s grasp,” said Venable’s managing partner James Shea. “Stef is as comfortable working with his private individual clients as he is representing large companies in complex transactions.”
The Worth ranking is the latest legal honor bestowed on Mr. Tucker. He was recently chosen by his peers as among Woodward & White’s Best Lawyers in America for the 10th straight year. Chambers USA cited his ability to “handle almost anything” in its latest directory of top U.S. lawyers. Legal Times designated him one of Washington’s “Leading Lawyers,” in real estate, while Washington Business Journal made him a co-winner for its Best Tax Lawyer in D.C.
“It is a tremendous honor to be cited by Worth magazine alongside so many of the country’s leading private client attorneys,” Mr. Tucker said. “Representing individuals and families presents its own particular challenges, as well as unique rewards and relationships. It’s gratifying to know that my clients and peers, along with professionals in industry, believe my work is worthy of this recognition.”
In addition to his legal work, Mr. Tucker serves as an Adjunct Professor at Law at Georgetown University Law Center teaching Federal Taxation of Real Estate Transactions. He is also the author of Tax Planning for Real Estate Transactions (West Group, July 1989, with semi-annual supplements) and was the co-editor of Real Estate Income Taxation/1982. Mr. Tucker served as Chair of the American Bar Association Section of Taxation from 1998 to 1999.
Mr. Tucker received his J.D. from University of Michigan in 1963, receiving Order of the Coif, and his B.B.A. from Universityof Michigan in 1960.
