Alan Epstein and Michele Mulrooney bring significant experience in tax and wealth planning for high-profile, high net worth individuals, with a focus on the entertainment industry.

LOS ANGELES (February 22, 2011) – Venable LLP has strengthened its West Coast legal capabilities across several key practice areas with the addition of Alan Epstein and his long-time partner, Michele Mulrooney, from the Los Angeles entertainment boutique of Jackoway Tyerman Wertheimer Austen Mandelbaum Morris & Klein, P.C. The seasoned attorneys for the entertainment industry will be joining Venable as partners. Jackoway Tyerman attorneys Kathy L. Wunderli, Lisa C. McArthur and Paul S. Bernstein will also join Venable’s Los Angeles office.

“Michele and Alan have been working together for 20 years and have a solid reputation for representing high-profile individuals and companies in practically every corner of the entertainment business,” said Douglas Emhoff, partner-in-charge of Venable’s Los Angeles office. “A number of us have come to know them well through matters referred by the Jackoway firm, and we could not be more excited about their decision to join our firm on a professional as well as personal level.”

At Jackoway Tyerman, Epstein directed the firm's corporate and income tax department, advising high-profile individuals and professional service firms on both domestic and international tax planning strategies and compliance matters. His clients are notable actors, writers, producers and directors, as well as established CEOs and senior executives of public and private companies. Epstein recently was the lead attorney representing Arianna Huffington in connection with the sale of The Huffington Post to AOL, a deal in which Venable attorneys were also involved. Epstein also represents leading production companies and digital media, Internet and technology companies in various corporate transactions. His clients also seek his strategic business and legal counsel on mergers & acquisitions, licensing matters, financing and joint venture transactions.

Mulrooney focuses primarily on estate planning and tax matters for high net worth individuals, families and foundations. She has represented many notable entertainment personalities in connection with their estate planning and other personal matters, and has particular expertise in cross-border estate planning. Mulrooney's close relationships with her clients have led to the development of a strong family office practice, which includes counseling family law attorneys in prominent divorces involving complex situations. She also serves as general counsel to many of her clients.

Epstein said, “Venable has a robust West Coast presence, along with a strong influence in Washington D.C. and New York, which will benefit our practice. We are excited to join a firm that offers multidisciplinary legal solutions and vast internal resources to better meet the needs of our clients.”
