John Cooney interviewed on the impacts of a government shutdown

1 min

Venable partner John Cooney continued his commentary on the topic of a possible government shutdown in an interview on The Alan Colmes Show. Cooney discussed the purpose of a government shutdown, and how it would differ today from a shutdown during the Reagan administration.

Cooney discussed the makeup of the federal workforce today, noting that many more contract employees now fill the same roles as civil servants. He also commented that, in general, a shutdown plan is designed to ensure that the president could carry out his constitutional duties, as well as run the government effectively during a shutdown, thus strengthening his hand with Congress.
