Incoming Venable partner David Strickland
was interviewed on the January 22, 2014 broadcast of C-SPAN’s Washington Journal
about a series of automobile safety issues. Since 2010, Strickland served as Administrator of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) overseeing a broad range of vehicle safety and policymaking programs including setting vehicle safety standards, investigating possible safety defects, tracking safety-related recalls; establishing and enforcing regulations on fuel economy; investigating odometer fraud and publishing vehicle theft data. He also spent eight years on the staff of the U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation as Senior Counsel.
While discussing a wide range of automobile safety issues and fielding calls from viewers, Strickland also discussed his upcoming move to Venable. Strickland said his new position would involve a lot of cross cutting safety issues, privacy issues, Federal Trade Commission work, Consumer Product Safety Commission issues, and auto privacy and connectivity issues.
