David Strickland quoted in Reuters on probe into GM recall

In a February 27, 2014 article, Reuters quoted Venable partner David Strickland on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s (NHTSA) investigation into whether General Motors Co reacted quickly enough in its recall of 1.6 million cars over faulty ignition-switches tied to 13 deaths in crashes.

To those wanting to criticize the NHTSA for not acting sooner, Strickland said it is too early to blame the agency.

Of the investigation, he said the NHTSA will concentrate more on the timeliness of GM’s response to the problem than on the number of deaths or injuries linked to the ignition issue. “They'll try to figure out when the manufacturer knew it had a defect that posed a risk to safety,” he said.
