In an article on January 31, 2014, TR Daily quoted Venable partner and retired Navy Rear Admiral Jamie Barnett on the Federal Communication Commission’s (FCC) recent announcement that it tentatively plans to consider a wireless 911 location accuracy third notice of proposed rulemaking at its February 20 meeting. Admiral Barnett is the director of the Find Me 911 Coalition which represents 911 personnel and first responders concerned about failures in the wireless 911 system.

Admiral Barnett said, “The Find Me 911 Coalition congratulates Chairman Wheeler [FCC Chairman Tom Wheeler] for supporting 9-1-1 and public safety professionals with his leadership on this issue. The Chairman has always made clear that wireless 911 location accuracy is a top priority, and his actions today demonstrate the FCC's commitment to addressing this urgent public safety issue. Every day that first responders lack accurate indoor location information puts lives at risk, so we would ask the Commission to share that same urgency in adopting and implementing indoor location accuracy requirements.”
