In an October 29, 2014 article, the Washington Post featured Venable's role in the reversal of a murder conviction by the D.C. Court of Appeals. Last week, the Court reversed the convictions of Gary Gathers and Keith Mitchell, who have been in prison for more than 20 years. Gathers and Mitchell were convicted of first degree murder in 1993 and sentenced to 35 years to life in prison. The Court found that the government violated the Constitution by introducing and exploiting false testimony from a Metropolitan Police Department detective.

"This is extremely good news. Our clients are very pleased, and they continue to maintain their innocence," said Venable partner Seth Rosenthal, who represents Gathers and argued the appeal on behalf of both men. "Ultimately, we're looking for exoneration."
